چکیده
This paper evaluates three critical plane criteria, namely the Findley, Matake and modified Wöhler curve method compares them to IIW’s implementation of Gough–Pollard criteria. Assessment is conducted on a large set fatigue data thin-walled tube–tube laser beam welded specimens made magnesium aluminum alloys that were tested under proportional/non-proportional constant/variable amplitude loading. Each criterion evaluated based their assessment reliability using both design experimental S-N curves. The approaches show encouraging results for weld but lead non-conservative in comparison • Multiaxial variable thin specimens. Comparison multiaxial Notch stress approach applied joint fatigue. IIW predicts conservative life estimations.

Prediction of Fatigue Life in Notched Specimens Using Multiaxial Fatigue Criteria
In this research, the effects of notch shape on the fatigue strength of 2024-T3 aluminum alloy notched specimens have been studied using experimental and multiaxial fatigue analysis. For this purpose, four set of specimens with different notch shape were prepared and then fatigue tests were carried out at various cyclic longitudinal load levels. Load controlled fatigue tests of mentioned specim...

This paper presents an overview of our recent enhanced 3D extended finite element toolkit for Abaqus (XFA3D) for fatigue damage assessment of welded aluminum structures under block loading. To alleviate the computational burden associated with the insertion and propagation of arbitrary cracks in the presence of a welding induced residual stress field, a nodal enriched displacement field coupled...
متن کاملA New Energy-Critical Plane Damage Parameter for Multiaxial Fatigue Life Prediction of Turbine Blades
As one of fracture critical components of an aircraft engine, accurate life prediction of a turbine blade to disk attachment is significant for ensuring the engine structural integrity and reliability. Fatigue failure of a turbine blade is often caused under multiaxial cyclic loadings at high temperatures. In this paper, considering different failure types, a new energy-critical plane damage pa...
متن کاملAssessment of the Existing Models to Estimate the Fatigue Life under both Multiaxial in Phase and 90° Out of Phase Loading Conditions
Engineers have a range of methods to estimate the fatigue life under multiaxial conditions. Each of these predictive methods is generally subjected to restrictions, related to the inherent simplified assumptions. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the validity of commonly used multiaxial fatigue criteria for different multiaxial loading conditions. The best criterion is identified throu...
متن کاملUltra low cycle fatigue of welded steel joints under multiaxial loading
Ultra low cycle fatigue (ULCF) is a phenomenon that can be summarily defined as the deterioration of material properties under high amplitude cyclic loading, under which failure is reached typically within ten to twenty cycles. This phenomenon is observed in extreme loading scenarios such as earthquakes or exceptional winds where large cyclic strains are expected. Particularly sensitive are str...
